Onex F-03 Seat belt installation arrangement?

Postby matthait » Sat May 30, 2020 1:24 pm

Plans page ONEX-F-03.

Drawing slightly ambiguous, is the seat belt attached forward of the main spar or aft of the main spar? the view B-B makes it look like its forward of the main spar, but the side cross-section C-C very clearly shows it being behind the main spar.

I ask because my seat sling (ONEX F-05) does not have a cut out in it for the seat belt.

When I google image search ONEX cockpits (with viewable seat belts) about 60 percent have belt in front, and 40 percent have a cutout in the sling and they run the belt up through it (with the belt mounted aft of the main spar).

I ask because using the boost seat (I'm short) looks like the belt will be in the way of the stock control stick. I am not at the stage where i can install the rest of the belt for test fitting purposes.

Very Respectfully,
Mattthew

UPDATE: I found a post under the subcategory 'wes' onex' witha date time stamp of 04 April 2020 6:14pm that better describes my question. It is later resolved in a post by the same user on april 06 2020.

I will be attempting to mimic his procedure to move the seat belt strap aft of the main spar.

I will attempt to link to his specific posts shortly (difficult to do from a cell phone in the workshop).

Very Respectfully,
Matthew

I'll save you the trouble. I noticed it in his build thread shortly after he posted his successful Airworthiness Inspection.

I think most folks are attaching the crotch strap on the aft side of the spar. Seems to work out much better there.

Good Luck,

Wes

UPDATE: Seat sling cut and HDPE cutting board sacrificed to make a smooth transition and to minimize stresses on seat sling. Thanks to Wes for the inspiration and documentation.

Seat belts are dry fit. Self made cushion in place but slight discomfort in shoulder blades if i tighten the seat belt alot.
