Bryan -

I haven't built that part of the fuselage yet; but it looks like you're positioning the brake handle in the "brakes applied" position, not the "at-rest" position. Doesn't the brake-handle live in a position that's forward of this bracket until you apply the brakes (thus moving the angle of the master cylinder lever to something more-appropriate for the handle position you have shown)?

Noel,
If you look at the brake detent, I believe the forward detent is the forward stop. That detent is very hard to get around. The far aft detent is for the parking brake. The prints for the hydraulic brakes also show the big angle for the center controls.

Center controls flap/brake detent on right.
If anybody just picked up on this thread from the new posts link, please see my photos and question on the prevoius page.

I wonder if the flap handle blocks access to the brake handle from the right seat. I haven't sat in the right seat yet. Will have to try it.

It seems ok. I am going to mount the MC aft.

I read on these posts about a specified location for the master cylinder.

I don't see any numbers about a specified location. Can someone tell me where this is located.

First I missed the lines going through the bottom of the spar tunnel and now I can't see anything about the master cylinder location. Maybe it is time to get new glasses.

Thanks for you help

Peter

Peter,
There was a print that came with the hydraulic brakes. It had a measurement from the spar tunnel to the mounting angles that was just under 8" if I remember correctly. I tried it there (handle fastened with spring clamps) and did not like the brake handle angle. I moved the master cylinder as close to the spar tunnel as I could and I liked the angle better. Figure I can always move it later.

Edit: view F-F, 7 and 61/64".

Thanks Bryan,

I cannot find any numbers on the sheets that came with my brakes.

Thanks again

The Sonex drawing is SNX-L07, Revision A. Look at the lower right-hand corner, view F-F. The dimension is there.

Another question for the masses of sport trainer controls builders. Now that my reversing linkage is working, we have the carb back on the motor and are considering firewall penetration. As I see it, there are 3 options:
1) sneak between the two sets of rudder pedals and penetrate just left of the firewall stiffener.
Pro: very short routing
Con: need to get around fuel sump, not much room between rudder pedals.
2) sneak through the pilot side right pedal near the pivot
Pro: helps get around sump. Short routing. Cable will be nearly perfectly aligned with the linkage on exit.
Con: goes through rudder pedal
3) send cable to the left, penetrate on the side, zig zag back to the middle.
Pro: the cable can route over the rudder torque tubes
Con: very circuitous route

Glad to hear any thoughts or experience!

I think I'm going with option 1. I'll penetrate the firewall as high as possible to leave room for the fuel line to go underneath.
