W04-08 counterbalance

Can someone tell me what you use for the counter balance for the aileron. I have a piece of solid bar 1 1/4" X 1" X14"long. The plans are kinda vague on that. If that bar is the stock for it then I assume you cut it into 2 equal pieces for left and right? Do you have to weigh them to assure they are equal or is that not necessary? I also have a 1" X1" X 6" bar that I haven't needed yet. Don't know where that's going either. Thanks

I assume you mean the lead.

I cut it into two equal pieces. I did not weight them. Key thing is to balance the ailerons per the plans.

Hi wingnut,
The lead can be easily cut in two , mark corner to corner with a sharpie. then a bandsaw or table saw, with metal blades, goes easily. Then mounted in aielron, after you paint, polish, wrap etc, then mounted on plane . Balance then per plans. easy stuff.

Not quite corner to corner IIRC. Also I may have used a hacksaw rather than the bandsaw. For drilling holes in lead stay away from small bits. They bind pretty badly.

your correct bryan, you jogged my memory. not corner to corner. Dont have the plans handy, but its like 1/4 inch or so at the nose tip width.

Ok. Thanks everybody, the plans don't say much about the weight itself. I'm not sure I saw the word lead ever used either. Makes sense.
