Hey all,
Question for the Waiex guys. The rod ends bolted to the mixer have an issue. With less than full up elevator the big washer hits the rod end. I either need more small washers and a longer bolt for clearance or I need to cup the washer a bit. Sound familiar to anybody?

Speedway Motors (800)979-0122, in Lincoln, NE sells "Cone Spacers" that go between the head of the bolt and the ball of the rod end. Two sizes, for 1/2" bolt or 5/8" bolt. $7.99 for a pack of 8. These are 1" OD, .250 thick, in Al or Steel.
P/N 546-4108 1/2" hole Aluminum
546-4107 1/2" Steel
546-4109 5/8" Aluminum
546-4110 5/8" Steel
I got these from their "race" catalog #4109, which is not current so confirm the price.
Speedway Motors is a major supplier of stuff for the Hot Rod and Race car markets, and claim to be the oldest. Good people in my opinion. Their catalogs are free.

Well, now we are both building the "same" airplane again, you a WX, me a SX. I'm just getting started on the kit (Sonex #934) I've had for a long time. Life has been in the way.
I can see this being a lot like it was when we were both building Hummel Birds. That was a good time.

Thanks for the tip! Glad you are back to building. I still have my Hummelbird and we will finish it after the Waiex and the Saturn rebuild.

I just went back on my Expercraft log and looked at this as well as I also had an issue with it. I put one standard thickness washer underneath it like you have, and then put the safety washer on my lathe and trimmed it down slightly. It's still big enough to provided the needed safety function, but has no interference.

Here is my solution. I bolted a few standard washers to either side of the fender washer. I then got a socket just slightly bigger on the OD than the fender washer. I pressed on the bolt and cupped the washer. No more interference but the washer will still retain a failed rod end.

Ah- good idea. Easier than my lathe solution.
