WIX-T01 hinge pin not removable?

Postby kevinh » Wed Mar 02, 2016 10:44 pm

Hi ya'll,

So I'm working on the stabs and it the plans say that the fiberglass tips have to be removed to install the hinge pin. Is there any reason Sonex doesn't recommend installing the pins from the bottom/center position outward? It seems to me that would allow removing the stabilators for service without drilling off the tips. Of course you'd want to bend and safetywire the inboard hinge pin.

Great idea Kevin. I'd go one further and do it to all the hinge pins. I removed my rudder a few years ago. It was a nightmare trying to punch the pin down far enough to get a grip to remove it. A half inch bend on the pin would have saved a lot of swearing.

Ok. I think I'll probably go this way (and leave some extra hinge pin on for now). I'll decide for sure when I install the control surfaces. (This is similar to how the pins were safetied on the RVs).

I installed mine from the bottom, bent the lower end and stowed the ends under the fairing that goes between the stabs. I think the bent portions are about 2" long.
