WIX-F09 and -F08 (aft lower cabin details and seat install)

Postby Rynoth » Mon Jun 02, 2014 6:00 pm

There are 2 clips in the aft lower cabin that seem to interfere with the installation of the seat. I'll reference the parts in the plans before explaining further:

WIX-F09, View F-F: Note the appearance of the clip on the -02 assembly reference (the part number for the clip is F10-08). It is illustrated here at full height, unmodified from the clip provided in the airframe kit.

Here is a picture of the installed clip in my fuselage:

WIX-F08, Detail B: The 1 1/4" distance between the hinge and the bottom corner of the seat sling creates interference with the top of the clip mentioned above. Here are some pictures that illustrate how there's no way the bottom of the seat can be 1 1/4" inch below the hinge without contacting the clip:

My assumption here is that the top of the clips need to be removed, but want to run it by Sonex and you all before doing so, since it's not in the plans.

I've additionally discovered that the center seat sling cutouts called for on -F09 are inadequately deep to clear the center seat belt attach brackets.

By default, the Waiex plans include the lowered seat that's been an option for Sonex airframes in the past. I have a feeling that the Waiex plans are incomplete in some respects related to the lower seat sling, perhaps including some specs/plans for the non-lowered seat.

I'm working on the solution, it's not terribly difficult, but it's not how the plans call for it to be done. I'll post specs/pics here once I resolve it.

Response on this issue from Sonex:

"Hi Ryan,

That is an error that was just recently caught. Yes, you can trim those parts to eliminate the interference.

I resolved both issues with additional trimming. I have descriptions and pictures of what I did in my blog post here, about halfway down the page. http://www.rynoth.com/wordpress/waiex/2014/06/04/forward-fuselage-9-seat-installation/

I want to go ahead and post here that the cutout for the control sticks per the plans (as of the writing of this post) are not large enough to clear the control sticks at full aft deflection. I needed to lengthen the cutouts by 5/8 inch to clear the control stick, and I've detailed this in the following post on my blog:
