Hello SonexBuilders.net,
Last September the homebuilding community lost Jim House, owner of Aero-Tuff seatbelt company, and EAA Board Member. In the wake of his passing, Jim’s family has decided to close shop:
http://aero-tuff.comUnfortunately, Aero-Tuff was the only truly economical aviation seatbelt vendor in the market, and they have left a big hole. You’ll notice that many Aero-Tuff products can still be seen on suppliers’ web sites such as Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, and they will undoubtedly be out of stock soon. Homebuilders are now left with the choice between other aviation vendors who are extremely expensive (at-least twice the price of Aero-Tuff), vs. use of custom automotive belts from the numerous hot rod suppliers and catalogs like JEGS, Summit Racing, etc. In both aviation and automotive marketplaces, there are a multitude of brands and choices available.
We here at Sonex are satisfied with the strength and quality of the custom automotive belts, however, we believe that is a highly-personal choice best left to the builder going-forward, and we will no longer be stocking and supplying seat belts. Your plans include harness length and attach point information for the seat belts, and you can use that information to order seat belts from the available vendors.
We are out-of-stock on all seatbelts for our two-place aircraft (Sonex, Waiex, Xenos and B-Models), but we do still have plenty of stock for Onex and SubSonex 4-point harnesses, and will continue to sell them until inventory is depleted.
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions!
