Performance

Postby bvolcko38 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 11:28 am

Well, after more than 2 years, it seems I have most of the bugs worked out of Xenos 068. After regrinding some exhaust valve seats, putting in a small NACA vent for fresh air for the Aeroinjector, etc, etc...I can cruise, fat, dumb and happy 90 kts at 2950 rpm. All in the green. It took as long to get this bird flyable as it did to build it!!!

The airframe itself is perfect... flies hands off at any speed, no trim tabs. Stalls are a non event. I have to work on landings a bit, I bounce now and then. 35 hrs TT so far. Want to finish up the EAA test flight book and sign logbook "Phase one complete"!!

Congratulations! Well the big question is gonna be...what now? Life could get boring without any problems to untangle. Might be time to build another aircraft. I've gone down the wooden pathway after my epiphany.

Bill,

Please post the drag polar highlights after you wrap up your glide tests. Any differences with the cowl flap closed?

Are you testing the acro capabilities? Someone told me the Xenos could not do a loop because of lack of power. That doesn't make sense as all is needed is to trade some altitude into airspeed.

I am curious about spin testing. Did you try to get it to spin?

I am waiting for good weather to complete flight testing. Between that and engine exhaust vale issues, I haven't flow much.
