Rudder cable alignment exiting fuselage

Postby racaldwell » Tue Aug 18, 2020 11:47 am

I rigged the rudder cables recently and see the alignment is bad where the cables exit the fuselage (and through the nylon fairleads.) I can see that over time the cables starting to saw their way through the lower longerons. Lifting up the cable rod end off the rudder mount helps but doesn't look very good.

I see one solution would be the rudder mount plate with a joggle so the attach hole is about an inch higher. I guess I am not the first sonex builder who has rudder cables not exiting the center of the slot leaving the fuselage. What solutions have been used?

My cables were touching exiting the skin, one side more than the other. I just made the holes larger & longer and on one side made a small phenolic slide plate mounted fwd & inside of the slot to keep the cable clear exiting...
