Marking rib location

Postby racaldwell » Mon May 11, 2015 10:01 am

The 1st wing I made I marked the chordline on the rib and measured up 2-3/4" on my square while trying to clamp the rib in position. Since I'm not an octopus, this was not very accurate. Checking with a straightedge on top of the ribs, they all needed slight adjustment. I started the 2nd wing yesterday & thought of marking the 2-3/4" mark jig. This was much faster. I could line up the bullseye in the rib tooling hole, clamp in postion, then fine tune with a straight edge on top of the ribs.

I forgot to mention this in the previous post. If you have not trimmed off the front flange of the ribs yet, they should be at least 1/16" longer than what the plans call for. The rivet edge spacing on some of mine is about 3/16". I'll drill some holes between the two columns of rivets & add a few more rivets to make up for the loss of strength.
