Did you offset the bottom longeron the thickness of the floor sheet?

I did a little experiment with scrap. I pilot drilled a piece of .025 flush with the edge of a piece of angle. Then I offset the simulated skin .025 and drilled through with a #30. The hole cleaned up pretty good. If I have any holes I don't like I will go up to a #21 and use an AN470AD5 solid rivet.

I am also looking into a local supplier for angle. Another option is to take some of my 1.5" by .0125" Hummel stock and trim the edges down- maybe on the bandsaw, or I will see if I can borrow my neighbor's plasma cutter.

Spruce estimates $175 in shipping for this $30 worth of aluminum. Anything over 8' does not go UPS.

Any opinions? Thanks Sonex892 for your question.

Bryan, did a quick Google search and it looks like Liebovich Steel and Aluminum Co. In Rockford sells 6061 T6 angle. Not sure if this helps or not.... Shipping sucks. Period. I'm lucky enough to live farther south in Springfield-Wicks is only about an hour and a half away.

Josh,
Found them too. Plus local Sonex builder Ken Irwin recommended this place:
http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/stores ... rd/metals/
I have a quote request into both of them.

I am on the road to recovery on the lower longerons. I made up a little tool to control the spacing. I have re-clamped the longeron in place and will run the holes up to #30. The test piece tells me I should drill through the extrusion first. I was disappointed to find out that my gnu-vises were too small to clamp over the 1" angle, but as I mentioned before I am the C-clamp king.

Thanks, I still have to drill to make the save official. It was too late last night. For those of you who are not going to screw up, I think the tool would still be very handy. As it worked out, if you rest the rivet heads on the top of the angle it is nicely lined up.
