Spar tunnel is clecoed back in:
Image

Took me a few tries. Had been so long I forgot where the pieces went. Here is the aft spar carrythrough. It is stout.
Image

Forward floor skin. Current me is shaking his fist across the months at past me for not polishing this skin while I was doing the wing skins. It is hot in the hangar now. I'd die in my flight suit.

Bryan...I will let you in on a secret with Sonex 1629...don't tell anyone...my floor skin IS NOT POLISHED!
I can't see it on the ramp and nobody else can tell when I fly over at pattern altitude.

Scott,
I wasn't going to say anything - but I noticed. Here I am half done with pass 1:

Current me is also unhappy with past me for not deburring everything on the skin.

Oh we notice, but we're trying to be polite!

Actually it's tough to tell when you fly over at 150 mph!

Good for you Bryan! If I can't give you a hard time about your polishing OCD, who can I?

I was so tired of polishing when I got to that stage I wanted the fuselage done and said "someday" I will do it. Well I still haven't come across that "someday". And now it doesn't look like a fun job, polishing on by back using a floor creeper under the fuselage.

At least you will know that the underside is shiny!

Here is one of my bushings pinning the wings together.
Image

Here is the other side, ready for the long 1/4" drill bit.

With no helper I had to use Boy Scout training to get one aft spar pin in.

I checked level and square again

... And I'm through.
Image

Bit out and pinned in place with a 1/4" bolt.
Image

Once pinned I went onto the other side. One thing I will do differently on my next Waiex - I have nifty little drill bushings I made out of an AN4 bolt. The inner hole is a #40 hole. On the last hole, when halfway done, I slid one of these all the way down my bushing and left another near the top. The 1/4" bit is a lot happier with a #40 hole to follow.

Bob Meyers and his wife stopped by to visit. Forgot to collect photographic evidence though.

On my iphone that last pic in the previous post does not show the bushing. It is there though.

Done with F9. Could be better but I want to move on.

Done polishing for now. This is after my one pass of C.

While I was grinding away, Adam had his first lesson!

His instructor is my hangar neighbor Steve. Owns an L4 and his day job is crop dusting. Definitely the right guy!

Next: let's get this wing rigging thing behind us. I want Bob to have to pay Glenn that $10.
