Bryan, what method did you use to trim back the stabliators to fit against the Turtledeck?

Ryan,
Where they hit, I traced against the edge of the skin and the turtledeck with a regular sharpie. Then I took the tail off and used a right angle sander to shave down the skin. Basically I would sand off the sharpie mark. Then I would do it again and again until I got a uniform fit/gap that I was happy with.

I think I used files too. You can see sharpie marks where I had contact.

I put the bottom skin back on. Really had to wrestle with it - I think something got tweaked since it was last on. Anybody else have this issue? I figure one firm landing and everything should tweak back in.

The front skin is on, but just by its aft rivet line and clamps. I had previously drilled 3 holes in the aft skin up to #30 since the pilot holes in the crossmember are 1/8" for some reason. Drilled the "same" holes up in the forward skin, then clecoed together.

So it would seem that with the aft rivet line set, I just have to line up the CNC skins with the side panels and transfer the pilots into the longerons. Is that what you guys did?

Bryan,

I would urge you to layout the firewall cross ties and even clamp/cleco the firewall in place, then double check everything with the forward fuselage bottom is still square and level before ou begin to transfer the floor to the longerons!

P.S. Writing this from terminal C at CMH waiting for my o-6:00 flight to DEN

Hi Bryan,

When we built Myunn the previous kit owner had assembled most of the fuselage and it had to be taken apart because he had gotten it out of level and out of square. It seems that somehow he had misaligned the left .032 side piece. (Still wonder how that happened.). The other issue was that he had the front of the rear fuse box (below the turtle deck) out of square. It took a quite a few nights over the next few months to carefully disassemble and remake and reconstruct the front fuse but the results were excellent.

I don't perceive that you will have such an issue but I say this to emphasize Scott's note that it has to be level and square. Doing so will guarantee that it will fly straight and true. I would also suggest that the firewall be only clecoed in place as there is a lot to do up front and getting to it is easier if the firewall can be removed.
