Here's what it took, a 30 min phone call with Dana Baker last week, he had the same problem. My discussion with Dana convinced me to "keep trimming". I probably removed another 3/16"-1/4" of material from the Side and bottom, and then the top was in a better position to lay down.

Today I am repairing my cuts that I made (similar to Dana) to relax the upper section so it would radius down. Word to the wise, don't do this unless you have no other options. It doesn't help, and then you have more fiberglass to repair, LOL.

I'm a little closer to being finished on the cowling. Top and bottom seams are connected.





Began fabricating the fuel filler door. I liked what Jeff Schultz did with his filler door and the use of Hartwell latches, instead of the plans overlapping door and the Southco fastener.

Looks good Scott! I will be glad to get those parts off my shelf someday, and onto the airplane.

It's been a long and busy month already since my last post. The cowling is now "fitting" pretty well. It's still not perfect and probably never will be, but it "fits" and I have moved onto other projects.





Other projects like completing the engine baffling!





And designing, ordering and receiving my military graphics:







And getting the seat cushion/covers made and sewn by my wife...

You may already be planning this, but if not I would seriously consider adding an overflow tray around your filler neck:

If not, then fuel and water will just run down into the cockpit. And believe me, there will be times when you spill fuel, and there will be times when water goes through the fuel door. I have a canopy cover but it only goes over the first 1/4 of the fuel door. The rest is exposed to the weather. It was one of the best mods I made in the whole build.

Exhaust system was started and completed today!

Look at that pristene exhaust wrap. Probably won't be like that for much longer!

Thanks for the comment on the fuel tray. I still need to complete the vent line and had considered making something like that. Did you use stainless steel material for this?

The firewall forward items are nearing completion. Yesterday I was able to reassemble the AeroInjector with the new braided throttle cable. I previously installed the older solid wire style and it was creating to much binding spring tension inside the cable housing the slide would not move. Fuel line and mixture controllers also completed.









All of the baffle sealing with RTV and sensor wiring is complete.
