Looking good!! Let me know when you want to get the engine installed...I bet it will only take 15 minutes!

You can always leave the starter off for ease of access once the engine is on. As you can see, there's plenty of room to work behind the engine.

Hi Scott,

I know I'm a mere wannabe ignoramus ;) but please consider my input as someone who might purchase a Sonex in the future.

One of the important things for people who fly under a Mode C veil like we do in the San Francisco Bay Area is a Mode C trasponder. I am not sure if you have a transponder with provision for a handheld radio, or if it's a radio you are planning to put there, but having both in the panel would greatly enhance the resale value to people like me.

I would therefore consider replacing the large slip indicator with a hole for a transponder, or maybe just at least planning out the panel so a future owner could easily do the replacement should they need to.

I really like the idea of having a very simple, minimalist built-in EFIS (your MGL) while relying on a commodity tablet with software for the remainder of the "fancy" functions. That way, you are insuring yourself against obsolescence.

Awesome Scott!

I ran some of my wires today down the cabin sidewall and am not far from doing my instrument panel. Mine will be considerably different than yours.

Looks great!!

(And Ihab - Scott does not need a Mode C transponder where he flies. I can't speak for Scott, but one of the best parts about building an EAB is you get to layout the instrument panel exactly the way you want!)

Noted! Sorry if I piped in here after Scott had his layout done. It's an awesome panel. Seriously. I would steal the layout for my own, if I were building one.

Robbie it will be neat to see how our planes progress towards the completion mark this winter!

Ihab, one of the really nice things about the MGL system is that the components are all modular. I can add the Magnometer, AHRS, and Transponder at any time and it plugs into the Xtreme. You should spend some time and review what MGL is offering these days, you will be surprised at the options.

I currently live and fly from Class E airspace, uncontrolled airport. We live close to the Columbus Class C veil, but I rarely have flown into anything more than Class D in the past year. A transponder is not required in Class D or E airspace, only B or C and the veil beneath them.

I have a panel mount MGL V6 comm with built in intercom. Also carry a back up iPad , iPhone and portable comm for redundancy. The slip indicator is my one manual "no power" instrument. Keep the airspeed up, and flight coordinated and if all else fails it should assist me with a no electrical power landing.

My iPad quit due to heat when I left it on the glareshield, in the sun. Came back after it cooled off.
