Here is how I am attaching the drain line to the fuel catch. First I made a 90 degree dimpler, which is what I measured my automotive brake flare kit as. That is the bolt shank on the right side that has been shaped into a cone. There is a matching dimple on the piece of oak. I use my drill press as the dimpler. Moving left, the yellow alodined piece is my pattern. Next piece moving left is scrap with a dimple in the middle, and 3 screw holes around it. Again moving left there is a short piece of 3/16" tube with a flare on it. This flare mates to the dimple. The tube is on a piece of 1/8" thick 6061-T6 with a countersunk hole surrounded by three 8-32 threaded holes.

Here it is assembled. Sort of a low pressure brake line fitting.

Here is the leak and flow test. Seems good.

Here is the backside of my drain fitting.

Here is my drain line routing.

Note one of the screws is a different color. That is because I dropped one down the tank.

The two sided reflection of the screws is cool.

Whatever is in the cabinet that I can get out of the tube. I figure it does not have to hold any fluid for longer than it takes to drain out.

Your solution looks a lot less primitive than my solution of stuffing shop rags in around the filler neck.

Ryan,
I bet your rags took less than 20 man-hours to complete!

Here are my clips for the drain line riveted in.
drain line clips.jpg

The bigger the blob, the better the job. I used red RTV because 1) it was open, 2) it hadn't hardened yet, and 3) it matched the blood from various cuts and a nosebleed I suffered today. The white thing is a piece of Teflon wire, sprayed with WD40 and jammed into the tube to keep the RTV out of it. I used the same piece of wire to bend the tube.

Tank bolted in. This sucker is done. Not counting the aches and pains from contorting myself under the tank cover it feels pretty good!

Bryan, Adam looks to be as big as you! What a history you have created here in this photo album! He will look back on this adventure with HIS kids and be so proud of his father. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Darick,
He has been taller than me for over a year.

No pictures, but we got a few things done today. Early this morning I installed Peter's excellent tailwheel steering pushrod. This afternoon Adam got the seatbelts installed and I worked on the mixer access panel.

There was some horror in my day too. The tailcone bottom skin is not polished yet. Hope I have enough F9.

If you don’t have any, let me know. I have some in the hangar at ARR and can find a way to get them up there.
