Sonex preformed 3300 baffles

Postby kmwoody » Wed Sep 30, 2015 8:16 pm

I did not build my plane so I do not have many metal working skills, but I do believe that you do not want tension on the metal when bolting or riveting pieces together.

For those of you that have built your plane what do you suggest I do on the preformed baffles I ordered from Sonex. If I press them together with a lot of tension I can get them riveted, I really do not want to do that.

I hope the picture posts.

Ken,

You could open the angle up (bottom in picture) a bit just by applying some hand pressure on the bench.. not too much though.
It will be springy.
Then you might have to close up the side angle a little.
Its no big problem to reform slightly, and being baffles, tension or compression of the parts wont matter much.

Cheers

I think you'll find as you stitch the pieces together from the 90 degree corner towards the 45s, it lays down ok. Any gaps can be filled with RTV. Mine were the exact say way.
