looking for prop shop

Postby Johns » Fri Oct 25, 2019 7:01 am

Want to send my prop out to check the track and balance. Tracking is more than I am comfortable with plus I am getting a slight vibration. Anyone know of a good prop shop. New England area would be nice. John

The mechanic shop at Danbury will track and balance dynamically on the aircraft and gets you a really nice setup. Of course you need to be able to fly to them.

Though not in your area, you can’t go wrong with Frank Johnson at Performance Propellers.

Thanks for the replies , have been trying to find a place fairly close but the Sensenich place in Florida seems to be the only one that can work on it so I am shipping it down there. Hope it doesn't take to long.

John,

While it is prudent to have your propeller balanced by professionals if you suspect an imbalance you personally will need to know how to properly track your propeller as it is something that needs to be checked each time you torque your propeller at each 25 hour oil change. Tracking and checking the propeller tracking is not difficult. Below is a useful link that documents the procedure in plain language and sufficient detail:

http://www.ultralightnews.com/pilotslounge/propellertracking.htm

EAA also has a video in their “Hints for Homebuilders” series that graphically depicts the tracking process.
