Saw-tooth Climb Test to determine Vx & Vy

I've written about using a "saw-tooth climb test" as a method of determining climb speeds (Vx, Vy, and Best Glide speed), and I thought I'd do a video showing the test in more detail. This method has been around a long time, and I've simply adapted it for my own purposes. You can find the video and write-up at the links below.

The saw-tooth climb/descent test is flown in the airplane to collect data at a variety of airspeeds. This data is then massaged into several graphs that can tell us our speeds. I've developed my own flight test spreadsheet that automates much of this work, and if you follow the test procedure outlined and simply plug in the data the spreadsheet does all the hard work for you.

Watch the video, download and review the spreadsheet, then go fly the test profile in your airplane. It's actually fun, and the results will help you create a customized pilot operating handbook with useful performance information.
