Fuel Cap Failure

The "older" Sonex tanks have this "Thermos-style" cap. Mine lasted about 300 hours of flight time before failure. Some rough math has me arrive at a figure of about 210 open/close cycles on the thing. You can see that the metal washer pulled through the rubber. After buying a replacement at $50, it seems that if one could aquire the rubber part only, it would be cheaper. I'll look into that next time...

I should add that the washer "contains" the rubber piece when it gives way so parts do not break free and go into the tank...

Hi Kip,
I have heard this happening before with the cap on the other site. Hence, I have already purchased a spare to keep on hand. The other part I have been thinking about as well,is,the secondary trigger magnet as I have heard of the magnet falling out and possibly being stranded somewhere.

My original fuel cap is about 1/2 way torn through. It still appears to be sealing. I found the direct replacement at Amazon for $20.58 with free shipping.
