Too cold to polish

Postby Sonex1243 » Mon Jan 18, 2016 3:39 pm

Has anyone polished skins at temps around 30 / 40 degree's? I can get the garage up to 40 degree's or so and keep it there while working the left wing. I checked on line with the Sonex instruction sheets for nuvite polishing and didn't see anything about temps for polishing. This will be the initial F9's with 2 passes of "C" before riveting.

I'm not sure if there's an official "too cold to polish" temperature but I do know that I've polished on some pretty cold days and never had any issue. With the abrasives in the polish doing the work I've never had a problem.

Best of luck!

Polishing will warm the skins right up!

Yea, actually it's important when polishing to avoid applying too much time/pressure to any one spot to avoid overheating the metal. Might take a few extra seconds/spins in cold weather but it should work.

We'll see how it goes, the skins have been deburred, edge prepped and are ready to polish! The wing box has also been completed. We are finally forecast from the negative sub zero / wind chills to above "0" this week, only to make it warm enough to snow!
