Fuel Tank flow Test

Postby Sonex 772 » Thu Feb 16, 2017 7:48 pm

Hey All

Many years ago there was a formula on here on how to check the fuel flow rate coming from the tank. It was by putting in 1 gallon of fuel in the tank and then timing how fast it drained out and doing a calculation on what the flow rate would be, dose any one know what this formula is??

Thanks

Mike,
If you time the gallon drain time in seconds, divide seconds by 3600 to get gallons per hour.

I'm reluctant to do math where the world can see, but here goes....

If 1 gallon flowed out in 3 minutes and 22 seconds then I would calculate it this way:

3 min + 22 sec = 3 min + (22sec/60sec) = 3 min + 0.366 min = 3.366min

Then convert 3.366 min to hours by: 3.366min/60min = 0.0561hr

So if you want gallons per hour, since you only flowed 1 gallon, it would be 1 gallon / 0.0561 hr = 17.8 Gallons/Hour

Or, divide 3600 seconds ( 1 hour ) by 202 seconds ( the time to drain your 1 gallon ) and you arrive at
17.82 gallons per hour.
