Drilling inside elevator rib to horn

Postby Darick » Sat Oct 12, 2013 3:59 pm

Am I being too particular? I drilled just two holes into each inside elevator rib to attach to the elevator horn. There is not enough room to get my drill perpendicular to all the holes, although it could be done at a slight angle. It seems to me a 90 degree drill attachment would be the right tool for the job. Is that what other builders have done?

I've used an angle drill from Harbor Freight and also an 8 or 12 inch #30 drill that will flex slightly.

Thanks. Looks like another trip to the HF aviation store is in order.

I have one like this, but clunkier. One of my favorite tools.

I bought one of these and it is great too:

 The long bits are the low cost solution, it works great and will get a hole drilled in some very tight places. The 12 " is the best for flexing.
