Today I took a picture of my MGL Explorer showing the video output from the downward facing camera I installed a few months ago.



Anyone know what famous US landmark I"m "flying over"?

I'm currently searching for an additional camera (the iEFIS supports up to 4) which has a wider field of view. Something with a near fish-eye lens, similar to a GoPro, would be ideal.

Close, very close! Not a postcard but an iPad with ForeFlight showing a satellite image view. In flight the image quality is this good. One of these days I'm going to do the Hudson River run. The cameras would be cool, but it's only available on the full iEFIS, not the Lite.

There are lots of cameras available in the RC world. Maybe search for FPV camera. They definitely had lenses up to fisheye, but the resolutions were generally lower than ideal.

For fun I thought I'd share my favorite two brainstorms for the panel design for the Onex project.

Below is my fancy panel idea. It features the MGL Explorer Lite iEFIS and the V10 Radio. At the moment I have a used King KT76A transponder & encoder that I got for a song ($175). Ultimately I'd like to get the remote Sandia Sentinel STX 360 ($3200) which includes Mode C and ADS-B.


Below is my frugal panel idea. It has the MGL Velocity Flight 2 Primary Display and E1 Engine Monitor. I could go cheaper with a handheld $350 radio instead of the MGL V10.


Both have the Lift Monitor system front and center.

It is hard to decide... but fun to daydream about.
