Darkhorse 450 for Combat Vets

Postby Matt541 » Mon Jul 19, 2021 1:40 pm

(This one's a little out of the ordinary as it is a paramotor event, but fixed wings guys are welcome to check in along the way.)

On August 2nd, Kurt Dugger is taking to the skies again for the 2021 Darkhorse 450. That's 450 miles from West to East Tennessee, no big deal for a Sonex, but quite an achievement for what is basically a "flying lawnchair."

All of this is to raise awareness and support for the Darkhorse Lodge, a peaceful retreat for combat vets in Paris, TN. This will be his third attempt, due to weather and mechanical issues, he hasn't made it yet. I say third time's the charm!

The finish line is at Johnson County Airport (6A4) in East TN and venue for the Moonshiner's Fly In. I am hoping to take 541 down as it is fairly close by Sonex. There is "safety nets" in place for separation between fixed wing aircraft and paramotors. Any takers?

I recently interviewed Kurt and Gretchen Catherwood about the 450 and Darkhorse Lodge:

Probably the most meaningful video I've ever made...

Can't wait to see Kurt cross the finish line!
