KRYV (Watertown) is what I used when I flew out. It is just south of Oshkosh and the FBO there is very friendly and well run.

My favorite is Poplar Grove, IL. Airport is C77. They have both avgas and mogas. It is an easy 102NM straight north from there.

hi all,
KFLD Fond Du Lac is another good airport closeby. th e local eaa chapter is out in full force. parking assistance, bathrooms, showers, tie downs, camping. local fbo inside fondy visitors and convention breau set up to help find lodging. shuttle buses running hourly to oshkosh eaa. fuel by truck or out front at the pumps. temp twr set up by FAA during the week. just in case your running low on fuel, weather , etc for osh clsd to arrivals. food vendor on field during the week.
Appleton has eaa parking, and shuttles running to oshkosh. KATW. to the west baraboo, waupaca, broadhead, wautoma. southeast sheboygan, manitowoc.

My Wife and I are comming to Oskosh this year and hope to meet as many other Sonex builders as possible.
Our Sonex is ZK-WBS #160. It has been flying for 14 odd years and is as far as I can work out the furtherest from the factory on the planet.
We will frequent the Sonex tent often so PLEASE make yourself known.

What is the best day to arrive at Airventure? I am planning on Sunday. Is there a space issue at homebuilt camping by Sunday?

I personally like to arrive on Saturday if possible, but Sunday should work, too. The entire grounds are open on Sunday if you have a Monday or week-long wrist band. Some food is even available on the grounds on Sunday (wasn't in the past). If the weather is good, camping is actually starting to fill up on Sunday. Arriving on Saturdays you can still find yourself camping out toward the front gate of Camp Scholler. Sometimes Monday has been a crap shoot for parking if you are flying in.

Last year Mike and I came in and were told camping was full on ATIS, we came in on Monday afternoon right before shutdown for the show. But further listening to the ATIS said camping was full for general aviation (happened the previous year too). Homebuilt and Vintage were still open. They will find you a slot if you continue in. Camp Sonex had plenty of slots available. I hope we can tell the ground handlers to vector Sonex types to a specific area in HBC (it was really nice and close to the gate and the show) and not put us intermixed with those Rutan and RV types. GA aircraft get the north forty or the south forty. Not ideal.

The entire grounds are open on Sunday if you have a Monday or week-long wrist band.


Be aware EAA changed rules this year and they are preventing access to a large area of the grounds around the exhibit hangars and Boeing plaza until Monday.

It sounds like the grounds are still accessible Sunday, but they just want you to stay out of the venues and buildings.
