Announce and discuss upcoming fly-ins

EAA Chapter 1083, based at Rowan County Airport (KRUQ), Sailsbury NC, hosts a monthly lunch fly-in serving burgers, dogs and their famous fresh cut fries....all for the low, low price of $5. It's a monthly tradition for pilots in the Sailsbury area and the public is always invited to join for a cookout style meal and a lively course of Hangar Flying. The fly-in is usually held the first Saturday of the month but due to the holiday, is being held Saturday July 15. Rick Basco, Onex #087, is based at KRUQ and a member of 1083. Rick and I were talking this morning and thought given this year's bad luck with weather and the NC Sonex Fly-in, should we use the EAA Chapter 1083 July 15 lunch fly-in as an opportunity to try it again (we are stubborn and hate to give up). I plan to be there in Sonex #1153. So if any of you are interested, come join us. Nothing that we need to do but show up. We can make this the Sonex "Never Give Up" NC Get Together. There is plenty of room for airplane parking and we should be able to park all of the Sonex flyers together. Drive in's are welcome to join too. Lunch is served from 11am until everyone leaves. Hangar flying usually starts around 9am to 10am. Hope to see you there

Regards
Dennis, Rick

We are still go for Saturday July 15, 2017 at KRUQ, Rowan County Airport, for lunch fly-in. Forecast shows 30-40% chance of afternoon showers/storms but that's what the forecast has been in the Charlotte NC area for the past month. Welcome to summer in the Southeast. Hope to see you there.

I'd be interested in going if I can thumb a ride from someone passing over north Georgia with an open right seat. I could meet you at AHN, WDR, or D73. I'm 215#s.

Thanks,

Paul

I could do it but I'd have to leave 5 gallons in the fuel farm. That would mean 1 hour legs to keep me in my comfort zone. D73 is practically on the way.

Well we gave it a shot. Two Sonex's flew in, a Onex that's based at Rowan, a couple of drive-in Sonex builders, and a builder interested in selling his just recently completed plans built Sonex (will soon be posted on Barnstormers). Lots of other planes flew in plus a Young Eagles event sponsored by the Rowan EAA Chapter. Great food and a lot of great hangar flying. Thanks Rick (Onex) and Larry (Sonex) for joining in. Next stop Oshkosh!

Well Paul and I tried but I had a mag problem at D73 and had to scrub. Good news is, if you're going to have a breakdown, it convenient to do it where another Sonex builder is based. Kip was kind enough to let me borrow a couple tools and some hangar shade.

Think I need a new ignition module though.
