Just sent an email to everyone registered for the June 17 Siler City Fly-in. Given the weekend weather forecast of scattered thunderstorms for the area, we are checking with everyone to get your preference for the event.......should we continue forward or reschedule to the following weekend (Saturday June 24). I checked the long range forecast for the following weekend and it is also calling for scattered thunderstorms for the area so weather may not be any better. We have a great event scheduled for this Saturday. Smokehouse Bistro from Liberty NC will be there during lunch with their food truck serving great BBQ along with sandwiches, wraps, salads and drinks (they accept both cash and credit cards but prefer cash). Vendors have donated door prizes and trinkets and we have 11 Sonex type airplanes registered with a couple more pending. Please respond to the email or post here and let us know your preference.

Regards,
Dennis, Rick, Peter

I have every intention of trying to be there no matter what date it is, even if it is only for a short time - weather is fickle and can take us out, very difficult to work around. I haven't been able to fly longer than 20 minutes since my BFR a few weeks back.

Anyway, not the point of the post:

THANKS to you guys for organizing this in any shape or form. You are a great big bucket of awesome.

I'm going to make the effort no matter what the date may be. It's summer in the south. Afternoon thunderstorms are a way of life. Just have to make that decision at the time.

We are GO for Saturday June 17. Thanks for the quick responses back. Based on those of you that have responded, we are going to continue forward with the fly-in on Saturday, June 17. The current weather forecasts for Saturday show a chance of scattered thunderstorms beginning in the afternoon at 3 to 4pm. The morning thru mid-day forecast looks good. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather holds and everyone please fly and drive safe. Looking forward to a great fly-in and we'll see you in Siler City. And everyone please bring an appetite (and some cash) and support our food vendor Smokehouse Bistro.

Regards,
Dennis, Rick, Peter

Oooof...Weather isn't looking good at the moment. I'll be keeping an eye on it. Final judgment later tonight or in the morning.

Cloud base looks low in the morning, but it is supposed to improve through the day. Still planning to get there once the cloud lifts.

Still waiting for the clouds to lift (sigh) ... we have been unlucky for this event.

We went to the airport, took the cover off and then we had a pile of precip hit the airport. Radar then showed a line of stuff north south at which point I finally gave in. I am just grumpy now.

Thanks for trying everyone. Ceilings finally got above VFR mins around noon my way and then checked the radar and saw the storms rolling in around Siler City. Thanks Peter for being willing to try again. I guess some things are just not meant to be. BTW, I've got about 70 ball caps that AVEMCO Insurance donated for the event....anyone need a ball cap? Peter, will hang on to all the donations in case we try again next year.
