2017 Midwest Sonex Fly In

Postby planeolbob » Mon Apr 03, 2017 4:03 pm

Hi Everyone,

It is that time of year again. We will be having our MWSFI on May 27th and at a NEW location. Ray Kurian and the folks up at Excelsior Springs (3EX) will host the gathering this year. They have a great airport and promise a splendid time for all.

We will have more information as we get our plans finalized. We hope to see you there.

Hi everyone,
The weather looks questionable for Saturday but we will be having the fly (drive) in as scheduled. I will give an update on my tail wheel problem.

Steve Sokol from Open Flight Solutions will be giving a talk on his ADS-B in device (FlightBox) and he plans on giving one of his kits as a door prize.

I hope to see you then.

Hi Everyone,

The Mid West Sonex Fly In was almost a complete rain out. We did have one Sonex fly in. Ray Kurian and his wife Connie braved the conditions and flew the five miles from their home base at Midwest National with fresh Donuts. Ray, thank you for all the work you and Jerry did on this fly in. David Haun drove in with me and we met Jerry Bebe at the Excelsior Springs airport. As you can see from the pictures and video it was not a welcoming sky.

After a little “Hangar Flying” Steven Sokol arrived and we set up for his presentation. Steven is the founder of Open Flight Solutions. They sell kits and completed ADS-B equipment that will work with smart phones and IPADs. For complete information on this great product go to:

They will also have a booth at Airventure this year. Be sure to stop by and see a demo.
After the presentation we took a unit out to Ray’s Sonex and saw how easy it will be to install the unit, the antennas and the display. Sometime “soon” I will be posting my install.

We also talked about my tail wheel pushrod problem and solution. Here again here is the photos of what I have done.

That is all for now. I hope to see you all at OSK this year.
Blue Skies
