The 7th Annual Northeast Sonex Fly-In was held on Saturday, September 12 at the Keene, NH airport. For those planning to fly, the morning started out quite "iffy" depending on where you were. But the weather cleared locally and there were blue skies for the remainder of the day. Unfortunately a number of Sonexes were not able to fly in due to the foul weather in other locations.
A total of approximately 40 people attended the event, with the weather keeping the attendance a bit lower than past years. But there were several new faces this year who were either building or thinking of building a Sonex product.
Six Sonexes did make it in, displaying a good cross section of airframes, engines and finishes. There was the added bonus of the New England Aerobatic Club practicing at the field, so we were able to see some aerobatics throughout the afternoon. And one of the members (flying a Pitts) happens to be building a Sonex!
The presentations were all very well received, and included Aaron Knight talking about his epic trip from Massachusetts to Denali, Alaska last year. Larry Rice gave a presentation about modern LED aircraft lighting, with the perfect balance of technical and practical information. And Mike Smith gave a presentation about the AeroVee engine. Everyone learned something, or had something to contribute.
Thank you to our sponsors, Sonex Aircraft and Wicks Aircraft, for the door prizes. And a HUGE THANK YOU to the local EAA 1314 chapter! They coordinated all the on-site logistics including food, and everything ran very smoothly.
