Yea. The first attempt they were using 18R and got oversaturated and waved me off. That's when I had to beat out of both holding patterns. The second time I came in I was number three in line and the accident closed the airport. I held at Rush Lake with about 5 other airplanes knowing that, if I left I wouldn't get in. I had enough fuel to make about one more lap around the lake before I had to bug out. Then they opened up 27 and I snuck in. I was tieing up Rosie at dusk.

For anyone interested in the onex build, the hangar is called the aeroplane factory, east of a hangar called the homebuilders hangar. ( old nasa hangar) looked inside nobody there yet but a onex tail kit was in the boxes. Work benches etc. 8am-5pm anyone can help. Saw a beautiful onex at homecoming w the 130 hp UL Power motor. Sonex LLC come out w some cowls/ engine mounts for different engines for the onex!!

They've pulled it out of the boxes. But the EAA folks seem to have lost the plans. They're fumbling through trying to put it together.

Just for fun- here is Bob betting Glenn $10 that I won't finish in time to make Oshkosh next year.

It was great to see the four Mikes, Gary, Rick, Kip, Robbie, Tim, Jeff, Jim and numerous builders interested in my mods (mostly the flip back canopy). Special call out to Micheal Radick for hauling us over to the Sonex Open house and back to the dorms Monday.
We departed a day early on Wednesday due to the Thursday forecast. Got a nice callout from the departure controller complimenting me on my plane. My plane was running rough after departure so we dropped into Portage to check it out. A spark plug wire had come off the distributor. Filled up with Swift MOGAS @$3.25/gal (Gotta get that stuff at my home airport) and launched for KAIO. Upon landing found out Jim Hincke had just left KAIO. KOIN was the next stop, hot (really hot) and windy. My radio kept rebooting and Mike's EFIS wouldn't boot. I guess MGLs really don't like the heat. So I launched partially deaf and he launched partially blind. After climbing to 8500ft things cooled down and worked fine and were enroute to KFLY having to fly around a couple of big thunderstorms. Thanks ADS-B for the heads up. Having the extra 6 gallons in the buddy tanks help us stretch our legs and give us a about 2.5 hours of enroute time with a 6 gallon reserve.

The best part of Oshkosh 2016 for me was meeting everybody at the SBPF BBQ at Wayne's 7th Heaven on Wednesday evening. What a great bunch of people and once again I'd like to thank Wayne and Kathy for being such gracious hosts. Airplane people are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and the Sonex crowd are the salt of the earth when it comes to airplane people. I had some great conversations with several other Onex builders and lots of Sonex and Waiex builders. Overall, I came away very encouraged to pick up the pace on my Onex project. Now I better get busy pulling rivets on Onex 182 so I can fly in next year as well.
