Sonex Virtual Fly In #2

Postby Sonex1517 » Mon Apr 06, 2020 6:35 pm

This Saturday at 3 pm Central Time, we are going to try Sonex Virtual Fly In #2.

There is only one email invitation sent out, so anyone other than Jeff receiving an invite please ignore it in the unlikely chance it is spoofed.

Meeting ID: 595 392 2944

Password is the same as last time - the original model, not the Y model or the One X. First letter is capitalized.

In a continued effort to herd cats, I mean pilots, I will do my poor imitation of ATC. Saturday morning I will update with a confirmation and ATIS. The ATIS information will be the security question if I am unsure of who you are, in the unlikely event we get uninvited guests. (This is to address security concerns)

- Again, no politics, or you will be sent into a hold over Rush Lake for at least 5 minutes.
- At the start, I will MUTE EVERYONE and teach people how to unmute themselves.
- If you need to speak while someone else is speaking please raise your hand. Be polite. I will tell everyone how this works at the beginning of the meeting.
- As we go on, I will be muting people who forget to unmute. If you consistently unmute when you are not talking, I will let you know and also send you to the Rush Lake hold.

I will try to answer questions.

Mute-control is super important to keep the audio (and video) from getting jumbled, though if you mute yourself the moderator cannot unmute you.

I will post the content outline as soon as it is finalized.

Thanks again everyone for being patient as we learn the best way to do this.

Hi Robbie (or anyone who can answer a question)

I would like to get set up to participate. When I go to zoom.us I have two options for download, Client or Controller. Would I be correct in guessing I need to download the "Client" app.? Could I download both? How does Zoom make money? I'm not going to get roped into something costly am I?

Thanks for Your Time,

Wes

Robbie, you say no politics and then you use a highly charged, politically sensitive name such as "Rush" for the hold area. What's with that? What am I missing?

Art,

The "Rush Lake Hold" is one of the published holding patterns on the arrival into Oshkosh. It's the dread of anyone trying to complete the trip into AirVenture, and the past couple years bad weather has driven way to many pilots into that hold! It's just a fun way of Robbie saying play nice.

Thanks Jeff

Art - it was meant as an Oshkosh reference. Apologies if it was misinterpreted.

I have a snarky sense of humor and tend to overlook the fact that not everyone gets that.

Hey Guys,

If Art didn't have his tongue firmly in cheek when he made that comment, I live in an alternate universe. Which, come to think of it, is quite possible.

Thanks, Jeff, Robbie, Wes,

It's just my ignorance in play here. I've flown into Oshkosh many times but not in recent years and I always arrived early before the special rules went into effect. I'm also a Wisconsin native and I don't recall hearing of Rush Lake, until now.......I actually lived on nearby Green Lake for a brief period of time in my youth.

Thanks for enlightening me, maybe others as well,
