Upper splice plates to cross tie box

Hi all,
The upper 3 legged splice plates have 3 holes that rivet to the cross tie box. The forward channel of the box seems to have the same 3 holes. If I didn't screw up again, those holes are not transferred through the upper web of the box when it is assembled. How do I proceed?
1) transfer the holes from the forward channel through the upper web and hope I can cleco to the splice plate
2) transfer the holes from the splice plate to the upper web and hope I hit the holes in the forward channel

Thanks!

I don't remember there being laser cut holes in the fwd channel where the splice plates hit. Might be why I missed the 40inch measurement issue.

Option 1 lets the prepunched holes dictate the position of the splice plates/longeron width. #2 let's you dictate position, with the risk of a less than ideal rivet hole.

Maybe do some more creative measuring to see if the prepunched holes put things where you want them.

Here is what I did. I ran the holes through the upper web that matched the splice plate. There were 4 on the forward channel and one on the aft channel (per side). Then I transferred the one hole from the splice plate to the middle of the web. I clecoed the box back in and found that the right side holes were lined up perfectly-ish with the holes I drilled in the longerons when I did the splice plate job. I always say I would rather be lucky than good. The left side was close enough. With a little flexing I was able to cleco it in.

On my next Waiex I will not drill the splice plate to longeron holes until I cleco in the cross tie box. Then it would be perfect luck or no luck.

I had a photo but my quota has been reached. Where do I put my quarter?
