Thanks for the great info Michael. I'm still very early in the test flights, and I'll resist full climb and descent testing until I get the wheel pants on, and maybe some of the cowl inlet/outlets sorted out. I remember doing those tests multiple times on an RV-8 long ago, back when I had to carry a stopwatch, and write down numbers. There's really no substitute for datalogging. On the last flight, I picked two points about 1050 ft and 3500 ft, and calculated the average climb at 1100 ft.min using 85-90 mph (unverified ASI). Note this is with a 912UL. I had done some quick tests watching the VSI while varying the climb speed, and thought 85 was about the best, though I never tried anything as low as what you're seeing as the max. Maybe I'll play with that some next time up.
