Vortex generators

Postby Sonex1517 » Sun Oct 13, 2019 7:54 pm

At the fly in yesterday, one of the attendees had a Sonex with Vortex Generators. I’ve been interested in doing this for some time, and this was the first time I’ve seen them on a Sonex.

The kit is available from Aircraft Spruce and I ordered one. I’ll report back after I install and fly them.

Cool. I’m interested to see what you think of it also. Good to have more than one data set.

Gary had them on his Zenith Cruzer. He sure could bring it in low and slow. Not sure what the high end cost is. We did have those giant tundra tires on our trip to KOSH.

I'd be curious how it impacts the top end. Do I lose 5 or 10 mph in cruise? If so, no joy. If not, then maybe. Sonex are really docile on landing. These aren't Lancairs. Don't cost much to try. Anyone wanna give me $60 bucks, I'll do a before and after test. Then keep the VGs if I like them and send you $60. Send them back to you if I don't like em.
