2nd ign tach not working

While trouble shooting this problem I was wondering if the 2nd ign tach is needed for the annual condition inspection.
FAR 91.205, paragraph 2, #4, reads "tachometer for each engine". #1 ign tach works just fine and engine runs fine on ign 2 but without the tach.
What do ya think? John

not being an a&p I would interpret that to mean you have one engine so as long as you have one tach it is legal. Unless you bring it to the a&p attention and he wants to be super picky about it, I would not worry about it. It would be nice to have for your "mag drop" test on run up, but as long as the kill switch works and all other aspects of it work I don't think I would be worried about it for your condition. I would want to have it fixed for my own knowledge however.

One tachometer per engine (not per ignition system) is fine. There's no reason to have a separate tachometer on each ignition system. On the AeroVee we usually took the tach reading off the alternator rather than either ignition system.

In any case, 91.205 typically doesn’t apply to EAB anyway unless you are flying at night or IFR.

Thanks everyone! And yes, I will be working on getting the second tach working!

It still seems like over complication unless you just want to see how much stuff you can get on your panel. Like Joe said, why not just hook it to the Regulator like suggested in the Manual?
