Gaps at flanges

In the podcast About turtledeck Jeff mentions that one of the steps is to adjust the flanges to be the right angle to sit flat. I can’t figure out how to do this. My attempts have resulted in pretty abused looking formers that are twisting out of plane, without a whole lot of improvement to the flange part.

Hi Gordon. There is too much flute on the photo shown. Use pliers or something to flatten or squash those existing flutes a tiny bit and that gap will close.

I had a real tough time w the flanges and gave up trying to adjust too much and shimmed where I could. I think the podcast mentioned shimming as well.
