Windscreen question

For those of you that used the full length of the Lexon on the aft side of the windscreen, did you make a new bow strap since it’s only long enough if we do it by the plans ?
Also when using the full length of Lexon my windscreen doesn’t sit even with the bow but it sticks out past the bow on the lower portion by about 1/2”on both sides . Am I doing something wrong or this is normal and I should just trim that off?
Thanks

Ben,
I remade my windshield strap. It was too narrow for me.

Shoot me an email and I'll forward you my windshield email I sent to my distribution. My Gmail address is my first name, last name, and serial number all jammed together.

Thanks Bryan , you do have a very nice and detailed build log !
Did you use the full length of the aft windscreen or shortened it some ?
With mine without trimming the aft the top of windscreen is even with the bow and then it sticks out about 1/2” at the bottom . I would post pictures if I figure out how .

Ben,
I had to trim the aft edge of the windscreen to match the bow. On my classic A model Waiex, they routed a little trim line on the lexan which was not really perfect.

Also, I realize that I said I remade my windshield bow before, I really meant I remade the strap that goes between the windscreen and bow. I forget what that part is called.

That’s bow strap , right now with the position of windscreen at the highest the bow strap is about 3/4” too short.

That strap being 3/4 of an inch short is not the end of the world, or even undesirable, especially if you opted for the machined components like we did. On our Waiex, the factory made hole in the longeron that the bow passes through is close enough to the outside edge that there's not enough room for both the lexan and the strap. With both in place, the fuselage skin gets pushed out.

Not having a working canopy yet, I can't say what impact that lack of strap section may have on it's fit. It looks like it may provide a small water inlet or a large slipstream noise-maker. Either, or both, was more desirable to me than having tension on that skin section.

The real problem with the strap for us wasn't so much that it was short, but it didn't match the bow front-to-back. Since the windscreen had already been trimmed to fit the bow, (yes, we removed the same 1/2in or so at the bottom of the lexan) a new strap was in order. Because of it's length, that turkey required a very pricey sheet of stock from which to cut it.

If you're going to Sun-N-Fun and need a piece for a longer or different shaped strap, let me know and I'll cut you a slice.

Area 51%,
Unfortunately I am not going to make it to the sun-n-fun this year but I do appreciate the offer. I think what you and Bryan are saying makes sense and I won’t worry about it .
Thanks
Ben
