Sport racing league

So an interesting topic of conversation popped up at Oshkosh this year.

A good friend of my family is involved in the Airventure cup - and he introduced me to a few of the folks that run it. But there is more racing than just the Airventure cup that occurs each year on the way to Oshkosh.

I am interested - and in talking to the organizers, if we get enough interest there is a way to separate the Sonex into a class of its own. Two existing classes fit the Sport Air league already:

SPORTSMAN
Any Experimental Category aircraft using a VW or Corvair normally aspirated engine conversion

SPORTSMAN-T
Any Experimental Category aircraft using a VW or Corvair turbo/super-charged (any forced-induction) engine conversion

Anyone else interested? I think it would be fun!

Depends on where the start and finish is. I live in the northeast and if there was something within a few hours flight that could be done over a weekend I would be in.

I've got friends who do the airventure cup every year.

One aircraft is a bone-stock RV7A. I did their wingtips for them when I was stuck in Florida for work. The other aircraft is a long-EZ. They are Race 3.14 and Race 93 respectively. It is fun and they get a good parking space. Next year I just want to fly to Oshkosh but the year after I may do it.

I flew in one of these races last year. It was a lot of fun even though I was the only airplane in the Sportsman class.

Here's my previous post about it:

Here are the results of the race:

Here's a little write-up I made about it:
