SonexIronman Blog

Postby jjbardell » Tue Aug 02, 2016 1:01 pm

After Oshkosh I have received several requests for more information on my panel design, a/c unit and aux fuel tank. So I thought it would be fun to start a blog!

Thanks for posting Josh! At first I thought it was Paul Dye's blog but then I remembered he is Ironflight. I'd like to know more about your nav light mount. I was thinking of doing something similar if I understand your pictures.

Thanks Bryan! I purchase wing tip mounting brackets from knutzleman adapter plates and mounted my strobes to those. The .032 6061 plate was made and simply cutout with two nutplates then attached to the fiberglass wingtip. I soldered my wires instead of putting connectors on them and left about 12" inside the wing to reduce a possible point of failure. This allows me to pull the plate off, access inside whenever I need.

Keeping them high and out past the wing itself so it is visible from above is important part of the FARs for night/IFR flying. Be sure you check your FARs on that.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
