Matco tailwheel

Anybody try mounting the matco 6" pneumatic tailwheel.on a sonex? It obviously would need a custom mount but the hub and tube looks to be about a pound lighter than the 6" solid rubber tire SONEX is selling. Am I missing anything as to why I shouldn't use a pneumatic tire? I'm talking just the tire not the full castering setup they sell. The little 4" tire is awful noisy on my plane and ready to be replaced.

Hi Keith,

You could try one of these 6" units from Anson Engineering.. it is pneumatic, much lighter than the standard setup and bolts straight on.

Love my Matco 6" Pneumatic. It is so much quieter than the crappy little 4" solid the plans called for and I had on originally. It doesn't sound like the tail ripped off every time I hit a crack in the pavement now. Lol

I custom made the bracket. Somewhere I still have the drawings for it, however I am not sure where they went.

I would say order an extra tire/tube from them so you can have a backup on hand. The replacement tire and tube is less than $20.

Thanks. That is exactly the feedback I was looking for. I ordered the tire and two tubes for $110 from MATCO at the show this afternoon.
