Sonex Upholstery

I'm planning to go with the Sonex factory Cordura/Nylon upholstery (I like leather, but not for the additional weight and cost). I contacted Sonex about it, and they are sending me a material sample. One thing I was annoyed by was that I asked if Sonex could ship a black glareshield cover with the gray upholstery (to minimize reflective glare). The response is "we don't offer a la carte options". That seems silly considering it doesn't cost them anything extra.

Anywho, does anybody have experience with the Cordura, and can speak to the comfort, durability, and quality of the material? Also, is there an easy way to dye the glareshield cover black for my purposes?

Thanks...

My skydiving rig is made of Cordura and it's great stuff. Looks new after 15 years.

I'm not sure you would want to dye it.

Better yet, go to an upholsterer or skydiving rigger to make one.

I used an upholsterer who was dirt cheap to make mods to my interior pieces...

I have used Cordura before, but not Sonex's...just wondering if it's like every other 1000d Cordura I've used.

I wouldn't dye Cordura either; I think the glareshield cover is a close pile felt/carpet type material, it should dye well. If not, I'll make a new cover from something else or just paint flat black. :)

Whoops. I mis-read the dying part, Andy.

As far as I know, Cordura is a brand name so it should be consistent material. I was going to go with the Cordura from Sonex but I saw the leather interior in another Sonex and I thought "you only live once" and all that... ;)
