We got a rare plane at work today:

An A-4B model enroute from a Naval airshow to it's home base in northern Illinois. It has a functional ejection seat and apparently no oil scavenge system...the whole thing gets covered in oil on every flight!

Is that owned by a private party? If so, I can't imagine what it costs to run...$20K/hr?

Apparently it's a museum piece. They told me that they have a flying T-2 they have no problems with, but the A-4 is a pain to keep in the air. No clue about cost to operate...I don't think I want to know!

It's based at KUGN and they have a privately owned museum there - a guy named Paul Woods if I recall coreectly - you can see them fly at Oshkosh every year. Great folks but yeah - a lot too pricey for me to even dream of.

When I based my Cherokee there it was always cool to see them pull a toy out and go fly it...
