The best I can make out it appears to be a fillet starting in front of the aft spar and continuing behind the flap.

This seems to be an improvement to my uuntrained eye but there is still separation without a doubt.

Since VG's can be used to delay a stall, would using VG's provide a simpler, lighter way of introducing airflow into the aft wing root nozzle ?

Properly designed VG's can reduce stall speed but they can also reduce top end speed. The vortex they generate creates drag. Many STOL pilots don't care about top speed, just a lower stall speed. I don't think they really have a place on a Sonex.
