Brake body assembly pistons

Postby sjakulski » Mon Mar 07, 2022 11:40 am

Does the brake bodies assembly cylinders need to be honed out in order for the Pistons to slide in? It seems, otherwise, but the piston will only go in so far. I did not want to try and force it without checking.

Nope!

Definitely not- although they are (and need to be) a tight fit.

It is getting the piston o-ring properly compressed that is the issue.

Liberally lubricate both pistons, o-rings, and caliper bores with dot 5.0 brake fluid. Then press the piston/o-ring combo into the caliper bore with a twisting motion. This is critical- if you damage the oring, the unit will start to leak. Even with this method, it is still a tight fit.

Promise you won’t be too disappointed should you find the braking action is not up to your expectations!

Thanks. A call to the factory indicated that some earlier brake assemblies had wrong part(s)…back in 2018 kit timeframe…fyi. Mine was fine - just needed to lubricate and use vice to press piston into place (flush), then used socket to further press into cylinder.
