jabiru 3300 exhaust

Postby WaiexN143NM » Sat Sep 05, 2020 12:55 am

hi all,
Weve discussed this in the past, trying to seal up the header pipes, 3 a side, into the sonex style collector joint . 3 into 1. what about just welding this joint up and not having any co leaks? maybe hanging a hook each side with a rubber type strap off the firewall for support? or would i be getting cracks starting in other places from the vibration?
thoughts?

Probably apples-v-oranges here, but the Sonex factory Xenos (with it's Aerovee) has the head pipes welded to the tailpipes, making a continuous run from engine to cowl opening.

There is a piece of small diameter (3/16 ID me thinks) tube welded across the top of both tailpipes that makes for a handy hanger, and holds both pipes in alignment when a bolt is inserted. There is a single spring from that point to the firewall to support the pipes.

If it didn't require a welder to come out to the airport to "tack" everything in place before removing it for final welding, we'd have one piece pipes.
