Hartwell latches

Can someone, or someones, that have the Hartwell latch on their fuel door post a picture of what's underneath the cowl?

The Hartwells I purchased on Ebay don't have the deep offset to tuck under anything. The hook mechanism is on the same plane as the top of the mounting flange. They were cheap though. Aircraft Spruce doesn't brag about the depth of their Hartwells, so I assumed they might all have the same offset.

If I could trouble you one more time, would you try and get the part number off one of the little rascals? It's stamped ever-so-lightly on the bottom. The ones I have are H-5000.

I have the same latch on my fuel and oil doors. They only have a small offset as shown in Graeme's photos. The part number H-5000 rings a bell. For the fuel door I had to offset the latch to avoid the cap, I have the older style thermos fuel cap. The fuel door stays with the plane when the cowl is removed. These photos are from 2010.

The little scoop - there is some bent metal underneath it and it directs outside air over the heat sink of the heavy duty voltage regulator that is right underneath there to keep it cool(er)

That's one heck of a camera you have there. I guess the -2 has something to do with the offset as my part is simply marked H-5000.

I'm going to wait till the tank/cap is in place before committing to a location on the lid, just trying to figure out the geometry of the whole thing at this point. Any chance of getting the part number off yours 892?

If I could post pictures, I'd show the difference between the one I have and Graeme's. I'm sure the biggest difference is about $40.

The surplus latches are sold in various random sizes. The model numbers may be the same but the depth range may be different from piece to piece. To Insure that customer gets exact sizes, they must order the non surplus version.

Just looked mine is actually H5100-2. Due to the price difference I also took pot luck with the random latch. A couple of shots of the catch and the hinge.

I'm thinking Hartwell uses one of those lottery ball machines to identify their product. I'm hoping to break their code. It appears the dash number has something to do with the offset on the locking tab. The first number is truly a mystery as they all look the same from the back side. That's what's screwy about ACS's description. They give the same part number for both the surplus and standard parts, but warn the actual surplus part may come from Forest Gump's box of chocolates.

Mine has about .065in of offset. It looks like the rest of you have much more than that. If they were $5 apiece, I'd have one of each and report back.
