About 19 years ago I asked Pete Buck (co-designer of the Sonex) the question of substituting AN solid rivets for the Cherry N rivets called for on the plans. His response was that the AN rivets could be safely substituted for the Cherry N rivets anywhere on the aircraft. I know of at least one Sonex that was built this way and I personally used AN rivets for many of the "working" joints on my Sonex. Enuff said.

I believe Ron Voss built a couple with solid rivets here in Rockford.

If you go to Sonex's FAQs, it holds the answer weather or not a solid rivet is suitable for your Sonex.
