It was Philip’s turn to go on a long flying adventure. We considered Sun ‘N Fun, but the scheduled launch of SpaceX CRS-8 to the International Space Station with the inflatable Bigelow Expandable Activity Module and the potential of being present for the first successful landing of a rocket on a barge won.

Here's a detailed write-up with pictures from the trip:

Jealous of your flight (I'm a huge SpaceX fan), but glad to read the write-up and the pics! :-)

Thanks for sharing,

Hi Chris, I enjoyed the story. Does Philip sit in a booster seat so he can see over the side? Quite an adventure for a young guy.

He sits in a car booster seat. It's convenient since he needs it for the car at the destination anyway. The booster seat also helps him fit the seatbelt better. Neither boy can see over the instrument panel, but they can both see over the side and feel like they're getting a good view. The mechanism at the bottom of the dual stick interferes with the booster seat slightly, so I cut a notch out of the seat. It's subtle enough that I was able to leave the fabric in place and it looks just like a regular booster seat.
