Kevin in NY - Waiex #0169

Postby dbdevkc » Sun Jun 26, 2011 9:39 am

Hello,

I attended the spring '11 Sonex workshop with my daughter. I have since ordered a Waiex TD airframe kit with an expected delivery date of 7/5 - 7/8. We are pretty excited to get going on it. I am a private pilot - glider, and am working on my airplane SEL. Before that I flew hang gliders for 20+ years. My daughter on the other hand is the 'real pilot' in the family and is a private pilot SEL and glider, with a TD sign off and is currently working on her instrument rating. She actually now flies tows for our local soaring club in their super cub.

We plan to use the AeroVee, but have not made decisions on instrumentation or paint yet.

Hi Kevin

You met my wife and I at the workshop. Great to see you ordered!

We are mid way into the vertical stablizer and enjoying every challenge we find. So far it has been everything we tought it would and nothing has been over our heads. Just a lot of thinking, comparing what we see, and working slowly to be sure we do it right.

Bst of luck and stay in touch!

Yes, it was definitely worth it. If you are subscribed to the sonextalk yahoo list, and you have watched all the sonex webinars and the hints for homebuilders that sonex folks have done, then you will be hearing some things again - but still it is worth going to. You will get a lot of insight into the company and John's design philosophy - and a bit of a view into the 'family business dynamic' that goes on over there. It also gave me the confidence to move ahead after seeing and experiencing that the plane was designed to be built by unskilled labor.

Yep - the second photo is the one you took and sent me. Do you have a builder's log site for your Sonex?

Thanks kevin,I have watched a few of the webinars but I usually need to hear things twice anyway, and I suppose it will be good to ask questions there,so looking forward to it.

Hello Kevin,

Welcome and congrats on the purchase of your Waiex kit! Just wondering, what is your kit number? I was recently asked how many Waiex kits have been sold.

Anyway, you're really going to like building your plane. Keep us up to date on the progress.

Fly safe and best of luck in finishing your Private license!
